You guys know I’m always up for adventure and from what I’ve heard, Cave Tubing in Belize is a once in a lifetime experience. While I have done some cave tubing in New Zealand, I recently learned that this is a fairly rare experience offered in only a few countries and Belize takes the cake. In fact, people come from all over the world, just to experience tubing through caves (who would have guessed!). Needless to say, it is one of the most popular adventures in Belize, and one that I’m looking forward to trying very soon!

The original and most popular float is 7 miles long through the locally proclaimed “River of Caves”. The underground floating adventure puts you in an inner tube with just a headlamp and life jacket. Which sounds remarkably right up my alley!
While there are many beautiful cave features to see, such as underground waterfalls and stalactites. There are also opportunities to float into a crystal cathedral-the resting place of many Mayans who were sacrificed to the gods during periods of drought. In fact, these caves were thought to be the entrance to hell to the Mayans, which is why during hard times they would bring offerings to these locations to appease the gods causing the devastation.
So, essentially, you’re cruising through hell on an inner tube with only a headlamp! I can’t wait!
If this sounds like an adventure you’re also interested in, there are many tour packages available. Tours typically range from $50 to $95 per person. I’m planning on doing the full 7-mile river tubing experience (which is the costlier $95), you can read about that option here
