Full Size Weighted Blanket

Full Size Weighted Blanket

Full Sized Weighted blankets are perfect for couples or families needing that comfort and therapy weighted blankets provide. Full size are great for getting extra snugly on the couch or for your bed.  In some cases, people find that King or Queen size weighted blankets fall off the bed at night.  A full size weighted blanket might stay on the bed easier because it doesn’t drape, so that’s an option as well. As with all weighted blankets you can choose the weight of your blanket depending on your own body weight and preference. Full sized weighted blankets come in a variety of colors, designs and fabrics.  The one below is my favorite and you can get it in a variety of patterns and colors.

Unlike other types of bedding, weighted blankets often require special care to clean. So, it makes sense that buying a cover could be beneficial.

Beyond creating a simple way to clean your blanket there are other benefits to buying a weighted blanket cover.

Weighted Blanket Covers Help To Maintain The Blanket’s Quality

Frequent washing of weighted blankets, is usually discouraged to maintain quality and prolong the lifespan. Having a cover helps you get an additional layer of protection for your weighted blanket so you don’t have to wash it as often. Since most of us don’t want to spend our extra money on weighted blankets, this is important!

If you’re bothered by the cat’s fur, hair or dust in your blanket, you can easily get rid of them by washing the cover. In fact, if you have two covers you can rotate them and minimize the chance of cat hair or dust infecting your blanket!  By having a cover for your weighted blanket, you get to save your time and energy, plus you get to preserve the material of the blanket at the same time.

Covers Diversity Your Blanket

If you’re someone who like to switch things up, a blanket cover can allow you to make that switch.  For instance, you could buy a minky cover, silky cover, or cotton cover (or all three) to match your mood.  While the cover doesn’t change the weight and ultimate warmth of the blanket, (yes, you would have to purchase more than one blanket for that) it does change the feel of the blanket for a fraction of the cost of buying another blanket.

If you’ve read any of my other weighted blanket posts, you’ll know that my favorite place to buy weighted blankets is Mosaic Blankets, and while I’m an affiliate I also do actually have and use their blankets and I used them on clients when I worked in healthcare. So naturally I’m going to recommend their covers which you can check out here.

Fleece Weighted Blankets

Weighted blankets are typically made out of cotton or minky fabrics, but occasionally you can find fleece weighted blankets as well.

While fleece and minky fabrics are very similar, minky fabrics are softer, plusher and sometimes thicker. Minky fabrics are most common in baby blankets (if that helps explain their texture and feel).

The main benefit of fleece over minky fabric is that it comes in a wider variety of prints.  However, if you’re not picky, minky fabric is probably the most desirable (and most popular) of the two fabric options when it comes to weighted blankets.

Fleece weighted blankets can actually be hard to come by unless you order a custom made option from somewhere like Etsy.

If you’re okay going with a minky blanket, I would check out the minky collection by Mosaic Blankets.

Hopefully this helped you learn more about fleece weighted blankets, if you have any questions you can also connect with me on social media and i”ll try and help you figure out the best option for you!

Do Weighted Blankets Help With Asperger’s?

Do Weighted Blankets Help With Asperger’s?

If you know someone with Asperger’s and you’ve heard about weighted blankets, chances are, you’ve pondered if they’re truly helpful. Here’s the deal, while many people tout the benefits of weighted blankets, they may or may not help your loved one with Asperger’s.

Some people with Asperger’s love touch and will seek it out, while others avoid weight and hate the feeling of anything on their body.  In some cases, this includes their own clothing. With that being said, weighted blankets will probably be best received and can potentially help the symptoms of those who already like weight.

If you loved one is not opposed to using a weighted blanket, then there are many benefits to using one. In short, weighted blankets work as a sensory input tool. People with Asperger’s Syndrome are usually sensitive to their environment.  Their sensitivity is often paired with an overwhelming discomfort. This can lead to stress and anxiety. Weighted blankets can help soothe this stress and anxiety through deep pressure touch therapy. This type of touch is similar to being hugged and releases serotonin while acting as a sensory input tool.

Weighted Blankets Can Be Helpful For These Symptoms:

Stress And Anxiety

A weighted blanket provides a calming effect to some people with Asperger’s Syndrome due to the deep pressure touch stimulation. As we mentioned above, deep pressure touch stimulation (or DPTS for short), release serration and melatonin which effectively turns the brain from anxiety mode to relaxation mode.

Sleep Irregularities

The serotonin released with blanket use, turns to melatonin in our bodies.  Melatonin is a hormone that helps to regulate sleep.  In addition to this, there have been many connections to Asperger’s and a lack of melatonin production in the body.  Weighted blankets can help produce the melatonin needed to help your loved one get a deep and restful sleep.

Mood Imbalances

People with Asperger’s Syndrome are prone to mood swings and irritable behavior. This is typically due to stress and anxiety or a lack of good sleep. Since both of these issues are often treated with a weighted blanket, mood swings and irritableness should dissipate with blanket use.

While not everyone with Asperger’s will enjoy the sensation of a weighted blanket, weighted blankets are a cost-effective and durable sensory tool option for many.  Weighted blankets can easily be purchased online. My favorite place to get weighted blankets is Mosaic Blankets

Sensory Processing Disorder: A Weighted Blanket Might Help

Sensory Processing Disorder: A Weighted Blanket Might Help

If you have a child with sensory processing disorder (SPD), there’s a good chance you’ve wondered in weighted blankets could be a solution for you.  The answer to that question is that it depends in large on the child.  Some children with SPD enjoy touch and a blanket might be great for them, others hate the feel of their own clothing.

So, while it might be obvious right away if you have a child who can benefit from a weighted blanket, you can also work with your child’s therapist to determine if weighted blankets might be a good source of therapy.

Weighted Blankets for Sensory Processing disorder employ deep pressure touch stimulation, this switches the nervous system to state of calm.  During this switch, serotonin will be released which will allow your child to feel happier, more relaxed and at peace and later on that serotonin will be converted to melatonin so your child will sleep better.

Note:  Weighted blankets can be treated as an alternative therapy and you may be able to get your insurance company to cover the cost.  Talk to your therapist, doctor or call your insurance company and see if this can be arranged.
