Using Almond Oil To Get Rid Of Dark Circles

Using Almond Oil To Get Rid Of Dark Circles

I don’t know about you, but I have an OBSESSION with DIY beauty stuff. To be honest, it’s rare I find really amazing DIYs that I will use again and again (partially because I’m a disaster and struggle with DIYs!). In fact, the most common scenario is that I spend time and money and make a huge mess to discover that the DIY doesn’t work at all… at least not for me. So, obviously when I heard about this DIY “hack” I was skeptical to say the least. Until recently I was not one to struggle with dark circles under my eyes.  I had friends who were constantly trying to cover them up and even family members who were buying tons of products to try and “fix” their bags. Within the last couple of months though, as I’ve taken on my own branding and business I’ve had more sleepless nights and days than I can count, and honestly… even when I’m sleeping I’m stressing a little bit about my business. So, for the first time in my life, I started seeing “bags” under my eyes, which I obviously want to get rid of! Browsing the interwebs the other day (okay, it was Facebook), I noticed a lot of people talking about using almond oil to get rid of dark circles.  Some of the girls swore by it, but others seemed to think that it didn’t work at all. Investigation mode had begun!

Why Would Almond Oil Work?

The first question my skeptical brain had, was why would almond oil work?

What I found after some research is that almond oil is full of fatty acids, it’s anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and a good source of vitamin E &K… all essential things for good skin.

The special trait of almond oil though, is that it is a natural bleaching agent.

AKA- almond oil is gently lightening the skin under your eyes and making it LOOK brighter.

But Does It Actually Work?

The improvement that I’ve noticed has been mostly in softness and skin quality over dark circle improvement.  However, I’ve only been using it for a couple of days.

I’ll update this post over the next couple of months to see if it really makes a difference.

Until then I’ll tell you how you’re supposed to use Almond Oil and maybe we can try it together.

How to Use Almond Oil?

The easiest way is just to dab some on your under eye area and leave it overnight.   Contrary to popular belief, oil is actually really good for your skin.

So even if you don’t see instant dark baggy circle relief, you’re still doing a good thing for your skin.

Fancy Recipes

If you want to get “fancy” there are a variety of DIY under eye recipes that you can try.

I like to keep it simple (no surprise), so I’m only listing my three favorites, but there are plenty of other recipes you can check out as well!

Almond Oil & Honey

1 tsp  almond oil

1 tsp organic raw honey (Manuka honey if you’re EXTRA fancy)

Mix it together and apply.

A lot of people recommend leaving this combo on overnight- I personally don’t want sticky sheets and pillows, so I leave it on during my “me” time. AKA: the hour that I sit in the bath and pretend that I’m not an adult.

One misconception about using honey on your face is that it’s ALWAYS a sticky mess.  I’ve used honey plenty of times and while the mixing and application process can be sticky. It washes off with warm water beautifully and doesn’t leave your skin sticky at all!

Who is honey best for?

ACNE: Honey is a great option for people with acne because it is antibacterial and opens the pores to allow for clarifying.

WRINKLES: Honey is also a great choice for people with wrinkled skin or skin that needs brightened.  This is due to its antioxidant, moisturizing and smoothing properties.

Almond Oil & Rose Water

1 tsp almond oil

1 tsp rose water

Mx together gently massage underneath your eyes.  Leave on overnight.

Out of all the beauty items that I frequently splurge on, rose water is one of my favorites.  I literally spray it anytime I need a pick-me-up.  I love it SOOOO much.  My bank account says I love it too much.

Who is rose water best for?

STRESSED OUT:  The aroma of rose water is a mood booster that is great for anytime you’re feeling stressed out or overwhelmed. Maybe that’s why I’m semi addicted

WRINKLES/COMPLEXION ISSUES:  Rose water is filled with antioxidants and has astringent properties which means it tightens the skin and acts as a toner while repairing the skin.

Almond Oil & Aloe

1 tsp Almond Oil

1tsp Aloe Vera Gel

Mix together and apply.  Leave for a couple of hours before rinsing.

I’m wasn’t an aloe fan until I turned 18 and got my first sunburn.  Since then I’ve been loving on her hard.  Aloe Vera is such a versatile item you need it in your cupboard even if you don’t intend on using it for this recipe.

Who Is Aloe Best For?

DAMAGED SKIN: Aloe is a superstar when it comes to repairing damaged skin and using it under your eyes is no different.

There you have it! A bunch of random recipes that I’ve been using that I thought you might want to use as well.

So, have you tried almond oil for dark circles yet?  If so what have your results been?

Harry Potter Inspired Clothes!

Harry Potter Inspired Clothes!

AHHHHH I’m so excited!!!!  A company called Black Milk has rolled out a line of Harry Potter inspired clothes-and I’m in love.

This line actually came out over a month ago (and sold out right away), but being on summer vacation it wasn’t until yesterday that I noticed some of the amazing pieces on Instagram.

As someone who prefers to go unnoticed, I’m not a huge fan of the extremely popular (and bright colored) leggings, but I did find several of the more subdue pieces to fit my fancy. They are a bit out of my normal budget, but I still might splurge on one.

Here are my top favorite pieces!

I’m a huge fan of simple graphic T-shirts, so naturally I was immediately drawn to this shirt! As a fashion-challenged person, I also love that it comes in black and white so I don’t have to try and match it.

The next outfit that I was immediately drawn to is this cute owl top.

I’m not generally a fan of skirts because I’m horrible at  being a “lady” (AKA: I end up showing off my underwear), but I would definitely wear this one.

I’m also not huge dress wearer for the same reasons as above…. however, once again I would put aside my dignity to wear this one.

The last item that I’m absolutely in love with is this drape shirt. Not only because it’s cute, but because it looks super-duper comfortable.

Have you checked out the different options at Black Milk?  If so, what items are your favorite?
