We all want happiness. We all pour our time and energy into things that we believe will bring us joy. In fact, we sometimes focus on working towards happiness, so much that we forget about ourselves and what makes us truly happy.
Let’s face it. We sometimes feel guilty about getting rest when there are things that need our attention. It seems like a selfish thing to do, but is it? The truth is, we all need constant self-care. Self-care is one of the most important steps to living a healthy, happy life.
Self-care allows you to foster healthy relationships, and improves your physical and mental well being. It doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming. In fact, it’s about enjoying the moment before heading out to face the noise of the world again.
Here Are A Few Steps To Exercise Self-Care And Improve Your Life:
Make an effort to get eight hours of sleep every night. If your days are full with work responsibilities and relationships, at least give yourself the luxury of having a good night’s rest. Not only is it a good way to recharge, it also gives your body a chance to repair itself so you’ll be physically ready for the next day.
Make Time For Your Self
Give yourself a few minutes every day to be one with your thoughts. You can meditate, do yoga or just be in a quiet space where you can forget the problems and stress of the day ahead. A good 10 to 15 minutes of peace and quiet everyday can go a long way.
Take a Bath
Fill your tub with water, drop in your favorite bath bomb, and enjoy taking a relaxing bath. You can choose to be still for a few minutes while listening to songs or reading a book. It’s basically like cleaning your thoughts while cleaning your body.
If you’re having a busy week, take a few hours on your day off to indulge in your favorite activity. You can make the cheesecake recipe you recently found on Pinterest. Or, perhaps go back to your old hobbies, such as photography or painting.
You can also just enjoy simple things like eating ice cream while watching a chic flick. Indulging on the things you love, allows you to savor the little things that bring you joy. This is the time in your busy schedule where you should leave the stress at the door.
While it’s easy to get caught up in your responsibilities, it’s important to remember that there is nothing wrong with taking care of yourself. If anything, it means that you’re mature enough to know that you can only do your best when you’re rested, healthy and happy. Self-care is not about neglecting other things that need to be done. It’s about respecting yourself enough to rest when you need to.
Bonus Tip: Being young sometimes I don’t feel the need to rest, but it’s important to set aside that time anyways. Even if you feel “fine” running on 4 hours of sleep, you know studies show that’s not enough-so actually set aside time to rest.
Self-care is about setting your priorities straight and knowing your limits. It’s about knowing that you have your own needs that you can’t ignore. Self-care allows you to be a better person for yourself and for others.
